Dakar Tour Day 1: Cordoba to Tucuman

Jan 3, 2011 by     1 Comment     Posted under: Activities, Motorcycle adventures

THE GOOD

  • Jeff Gordon and his TV crew chopper at our first crossing of the rally
  • The changing scenery: from cinder block homes to empty desert
  • Being treated like a hero: kids smiling, cheering and jumping along the roadside as we passed.  Signing autographs at gas stations.  Described by Will as “the most heart warming experience of my life”

THE BAD

  • 100 degree heat for 550km, much of it on mind numbingly straight road
  • The steering on my bike

THE UGLY

  • The behaviour of a number of bikes after getting some “bad gas”.
  • Sleep deprivation as in typical Latin America style dinner wasn’t over til 1am.

735km of riding to look forward to tomorrow!
